Hatha

Steady, Strengthening, Breath‑Led

Hatha Yoga is one of the oldest and most influential branches of yoga, emerging from early tantric Buddhist and Nātha traditions between the 8th–12th centuries. Its development is closely linked to the yogi Gorakhnath, who shaped Hatha into a practical system of asana, pranayama, mudra and bandha to cultivate strength, stability and inner awareness. Over time, it evolved from an esoteric energetic practice into the accessible, breath‑led form of yoga widely taught today.

At The Haven, our Hatha‑inspired classes honour these roots through practices that are steady, strengthening and breath‑led — designed to help you feel grounded, connected and confident in your body.

Our Hatha Yoga based classes include: Early Morning Hatha Flow, Hatha Explore, Gentle Yoga, Senior Mindful Yoga and Hatha & Sound.

In essence: steady movement • strength • breath • clarity

Vinyasa

Fluid, Uplifting, Breath‑Fuelled Flow

Vinyasa Yoga grew from the early 20th‑century teachings of T. Krishnamacharya, who introduced this breath‑linked movement. His student Pattabhi Jois later formalised these flowing transitions into the Ashtanga system, and modern Vinyasa evolved from there — a creative, adaptable style built on the principle of placing movement in a deliberate, breath‑led sequence .

At its heart, Vinyasa synchronises breath with continuous movement, creating a rhythmic “moving meditation” that builds heat, strength, stamina, focus and fluidity . It’s particularly supportive for those who enjoy dynamic practice, cardiovascular uplift, expressive sequencing and the feeling of being carried by momentum.

At The Haven, our Vinyasa‑inspired classes honour this lineage through smooth, creative flows that feel energising, uplifting and deeply connecting — we have traditional Vinyasa and a strong Vinyasa for those looking for a greater challenge.

Yin

Slow, Still, Deeply Releasing

Yin Yoga emerged in the late 20th century through the work of Paulie Zink, who blended classical Hatha principles with Taoist philosophy and long‑held floor postures. It was later expanded by teachers such as Paul Grilley and Sarah Powers, who introduced anatomical insight, fascia‑focused stretching and the meditative stillness that now defines modern Yin. At its core, Yin is about slowing down, softening and creating space — working gently into the deeper layers of the body while calming the nervous system.

At The Haven, our Yin‑inspired classes honour this quiet lineage through long, supported holds that invite deep release through the fascia and connective tissues. The practice is spacious, quiet and meditative - we have traditional Yin and Stretch and Reset for those looking for a Yin inspired reset.

In essence: long holds • deep stretch • stillness • release
